How we research
Updated
Odds and prices
- Odds come from our odds data feeds and are compared on the exact selection: the same game, market, period, player, side and line. A different line is a different bet; we show it separately as an alternate.
- The best price is the most favorable price currently offered for that selection. The fair price removes the sportsbooks' margin, using the median across books that offer both sides.
- Prices are timestamped. Prices that haven't updated recently are marked as possibly out of date, and availability depends on your state.
Player and team trends
- Player game logs, injuries, standings and team results come from a commercial sports data provider.
- A hit rate is how often a line would have won over a stated sample of past games: last 5, last 10, the current season, against the same opponent, or at home or on the road. Pushes count as misses.
- Hit rates describe what happened. Samples are often small, and roles, injuries and matchups change, so a hit rate is not a probability or a prediction.
Weather
Game-time weather comes from US National Weather Service forecasts for the stadium. Domes and closed roofs are noted when known. Weather is shown as context; prices and trends are not adjusted for it.
Picks
Picks reflect the author's judgment of the price, the matchup and the evidence in the article. Each pick shows the original sportsbook, line and odds, when the price was observed, and the risks we see. Results are recorded after the game from official statistics.
